Alejandro Moreno Cárdenas

During his tenure as governor of Campeche, Alejandro Moreno Cárdenas put several state-owned properties up for sale at a price of half a cent per square meter, when their actual value was much higher. He would purchase them and then donate them to his mother to conceal the transaction, as reported by Layda Sansores.
The governor of Campeche stated that they discovered he made up to ten such donations in a single day.
In an interview after participating in the fifth meeting of southern-southeastern governors with U.S. Ambassador Ken Salazar, Sansores reiterated that the Campeche Prosecutor’s Office must continue investigating Moreno’s administration. Moreno is currently the national leader and federal deputy for the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI).
“We don’t know where the PRI’s money for the campaigns came from; that’s what we want to be investigated. I believe this has more layers than an onion. We are conducting investigations in general audits, and a lot of information has come out of that.
“In the Public Property Registry (there are) properties he bought at prices like that. We didn’t make this up, it’s there. He was the governor and sold properties at half a cent per square meter in a paradisiacal location, when the land next to it costs 30, 50, or 100 times more.
“Things like that, and then he donated them to his mom. In just one day, he donated ten properties, it’s scandalous what we are living through,” said Sansores Sanromán.
The governor of Campeche warned that “there’s more than we think, because we ourselves (see) things that keep surprising us, although we are still in shock.”
